Licensing Model Terms

General Products (vs) Server Product

General Products are those products that are solely used by developers to create applications and not meant for servers in general, for example Arctorus Documents .

While, Server Products are those products that work/execute on servers for their functionality, like reporting products, examples are Arctorus BIRT Emitters .

Licensing Model

The term Licensing Model refers to upgrades. One year Licensing Model will entitle you to get product upgrades for one year and two year Licensing Model will entitle you for two years. After your Licensing Model time has elapsed, you can still continue to use your old product but you cannot get product upgrades; for that, you will have to renew your Licensing Model.

Developer (vs) Team Licensing Model

Developer Licensing Model will license one developer to create unlimited number of derived works. Suppose if your project has 3 developers who are utilizing Arctorus components, then you will have to purchase 3 Developer Licensing Models.

Alternatively, you can purchase Team Licensing Model that will license 10 developers. However, if you have more than 10 developers then you will have to purchase more Developer or Team Licensing Models.

Assume, your project team has 13 developers; then you can purchase 1 Team Licensing Model and 3 Developer Licensing Models.

However, a single developer license will allow you to deploy derived works on a single location and a single team license will allow you to deploy derived works on 10 locations. If you need to deploy derived works on more locations, you will have to purchase more licenses.

Consider Developer OEM or Team OEM Licensing Models to deploy your derived works on unlimited number of locations

If you need to deploy you derived works on more locations, then you can consider Developer OEM or Team OEM Licensing Models which will license you to deploy your derived works on unlimited number of locations

Developer OEM (vs) Team OEM Licensing Model

Developer OEM Licensing Model allows 1 developer to create unlimited number of derived works but he can deploy the derived works on unlimited number of locations. On the other hand, Team OEM Licensing Model allows 10 developers to create unlimited number of derived works but they can deploy derived works on unlimited number of locations.

Location

For General Products, location means Physical Location. Suppose if you have a popular chain of store which has many different store locations and if you want to use Arctorus components, then each of your stores would be considered as separate physical location. It means you have to purchase separate licenses for each of your stores.

For Server Products, location could both mean Physical Server or Virtual Server. So, if you want to deploy derived works on 3 virtual and 2 physical servers, you will need to purchase Licensing Model for 5 locations.

If your business has off-site servers, then you will have to purchase additional licenses for each off-site location. Off-site servers might include build machines, backup servers, disaster recovery servers or test servers.

If you are not still clarified about term location and you have any questions, you can post it on our sales forum.
